Grading Hell Theater: daily pleasures

Mar 08, 2010 07:41

In the spirit of counting my blessings, I've been thinking a lot about small, daily pleasures (for values of "daily" that equal "most days," anyway). The way the warmth of the first swallow of coffee spreads through my whole chest. The small person's face lighting up when I arrive at daycare to pick her up. A razor sliding through rich lather as I shave in she shower (yes, I enjoy shaving; we all have our quirks ;).

So, because I really want to be positive today: what are your favorite characters' small daily pleasures?

No matter how late he goes to bed, the last thing Rick Castle does every night is look in on Alexis. He makes sure all the lights in the hall are off so he doesn't disturb her, and he only watches for a minute (unless he's had a truly horrifying case; sometimes then he actually falls asleep in her chair), but it's the best minute of his day.

(Alexis actually does wake up when he comes in, but she pretends not to. It's one of the best moments of her day, too.)

Jessica Fletcher drinks coffee all day long, but nothing quite matches the smell of that first pot filling her kitchen. It's a smell she's known her whole life, from her parents' kitchen, bustling with children getting ready for school, to the quiet mornings when Frank would make her breakfast, to the mornings after when the coffee got her ready to face another day without him.

Your turn!
