Once Upon a Time I Hated Mass Effect but...
NERD UPDATE:
So apparently a Mass Effect movie is in the works...
I mean, I know video game movies ALWAYS suck, but they're actually giving this one to people who know how to make commercially successful and technically good (even if I have my MASSIVE PROBLEMS with Dark Knight) adaptations...
- so uh, I can't even TELL YOU how much I hope they choose to go with a female Shepard for this movie (if they even choose to follow the game's plot). This could mean the difference between having another "fun" (har har) macho boom-fest about your average grizzled Space Marine and having a space epic about a rare, competent, rounded female hero who also blows things up. Also, not to mention that it would probably be the first action-adventure movie set in space to pass the Bechdel test with flying colours (although not the first one to feature an absolutely kicking female protagonist). I totally reserve the right to assume that the movie is going to be automatically better with a female main character because the game was automatically better with a female main character.
BTW A SPACE ACTION MOVIE THAT MORE THAN PASSES THE BECHDEL TEST IS A NICE THING THAT I WANT. WHY CAN GIRL NERDS NEVER HAVE NICE THINGS? GIRLS LIKE SPACE MARINES TOO OK.
And Garrus can be the Love Interest!
... oh, who am I kidding. Garrus can be the love interest no MATTER what gender the main character is. ♥
