Obsessive/compulsive

I think I may be somewhat obsessive/compulsive. Not insanely so, but more than the average person. I mean on a scale of 1 to 10, where people are normally around 2 or 3 and the people who are literally crazy are around 9 to 10, I would fall in the 5 to 6 range.

Here’s why:

This really occurs mainly when I go through a period where I am processing a lot of numbers, such as the last few weeks of finals. The first thing is that patterns start running through my mind over an over again and I really have difficult time getting it to quit (imagine the worst time you’ve had with a song getting stuck in your head and multiply that times 10). There is one pattern in particular which I will show here in 1’s and 0’s. Parentheses show the different levels of complexity. It is basically the same pattern within it self over and over and over again.

[(1001 0110 0110 1001) (0110 1001 1001 0110) (0110 1001 1001 0110) (1001 0110 0110 1001)]
[(0110 1001 1001 0110) (1001 0110 0110 1001) (1001 0110 0110 1001) (0110 1001 1001 0110)]
[(0110 1001 1001 0110) (1001 0110 0110 1001) (1001 0110 0110 1001) (0110 1001 1001 0110)]
[(1001 0110 0110 1001) (0110 1001 1001 0110) (0110 1001 1001 0110) (1001 0110 0110 1001)]

My mind will run through this to many greater levels than this, and when it gets to much to process, it starts over. It really is maddening at times.

The next thing that happens is that I start watching the same movie over and over and over again, and it never gets tiring. This past few weeks it has been A Knight’s Tale. Every break I take from my home work to eat or rest I turn it on.

Further more, everything in my life becomes a pattern, and if something is not a pattern, I somehow can’t deal with it correctly (like normal conversation for instance). It’s really strange.

I think that it is a way my mind changes to make it easier to process large quantities of math and logic. I think that half of my brain just completely takes over during these periods and shuts the other half off completely. It sets up a logical system and constantly has a pattern going on so that the math can be more quickly and efficiently processed. Adam? Ashli? You deal with a lot of math and logic, have you ever noticed anything like this in yourselves? I would be very interested to hear comments from anyone and everyone.

Well, I'm off to watch A Knight's Tale (just kidding :)
