Just a note on the roof
I love having this journal if for no other reason than to keep records of things. And as time flys by so fast.. it's hard to keep a good idea what happened when.
The roofer came back today and put a membrane roof over the porch. It looks shitty, in my opinion, but I dint' have to pay for it, and it damnwell better stop the water leaks. The roof, I just checked, was done in 2006, and in 2011 we had ice dams and after that, we have been getting rain through the cealing of the porch. At first I thought it was just because of the dams, and that when the wood dried out it would go back to normal. Now I wonder if when they did the roof, they never put the rubber membrane down over the porch, which they were supposed to. I could not get a strait answer out of the guy who took off the roof today. He said he could find no reason for the leaks, but that there would be none now.. That's great, but I'd like to have known if the thing was done the right way to begin with. I waited so long to complain, though I did mention it in 2011, because I thought by now I would have had some kind of renovations done to the porch. Being as I move like molassas in winger when it comes to home repairs.. that hasn't happened. It's next on the list, but it's a total can of worms. Doing anything basically means residing the whole house, and if I'm going to do one thing, I'd like to do the other.. which could be a huge renovation... who knows? I have to talk to somone about what I can and cannot do, what it will cost, etc... And I have not. But at least now, the roof won't be leaking over the porch. That's something, right?
