So I'm doing a fake. A copy of a painting. "Fakes" is going to be one of the catagories for the art show next year. The guy who taught the scupture class I did and who I see once a week at the open studio has been pusing for this idea for a while now. It sounds like a lot of fun. There will be two catagories, copies of famous art, and copies but with variations of famous art. So one might be like a perfect (or attepted) perfect copy of the Mona Lisa, and the other catagory would be the artists face instead of the Mona Lisa face.. That kind of change to a famous painting. I'm not sure what the catorgory is called, but it could be a lot of fun.
I am atempting to do an 'exact' copy of a Sargent painting. The Lady Agnew, which is a fantasticly vivid and beutiful painting of a seated woman in a dress.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Agnew_of_Lochnaw She's just stunning. I know I wont be able to really do it justice, but I'm having fun trying. I have the painting roughed out now. But I have had little daylight to work on it and it's too cold to go upstairs to work on it, plus Himself will be home in a bit and I'll have to put it away anyway. Its a big painting, 26 x 34, which is the biggest painting I've done in maybe 20 years. And of course I now have to find or make an odd ball shaped frame. But I have time to do that at least.
I've also had to buy some different colors which I researched to find out what Sargent used. And acutally I love the flesh tones I'm getting from the colors. Cant wait to actually try seeing what they look like in the daylight!
I did pretty well with transfering the image to the 'canvas' (it's actually masonite) using a grid system that I drew on the image and the canvas.
Also on art notes, I went to the library today to get a book on Sargent to get a better image to look at. There was a fantastic display of pastel work in the lobby, and I noted that a lot of the pieces had been sold. I also noted that the prices were very reasonable for fine art. $250 for many of hte smaller to med. paintings.. $1800. for the largest, grandest pieces. As opposed to maybe $3000. or more that I've seen on some things of similar quality.
Also I think I may have offended a fellow artist today, because my political views didn't jive with her painting. The painting was very good, and very bold, but I just didn't happen to agree with the viewpoint of it. And I said so, but not nastily or anything. I suppose I could have just kept my mouth shut, but you know me. lol
And also, I really do appologize for all the horrid misspellings that are here. There is no auto correct on LJ it seems, and I have a habbit of fast finger typing anyway. I not specifically I do a mixed up ING in a lot of words. There used to be a spell check that I could run these through, but I dont' see it now, and I am so used to FB's automatic, if flawed word corrections. sigh.
