I have a brewing headache

I need a nap. Thank goodness it's close to bed time. Of course I have to watch Veronica Mars at 9 to catch up on what I missed over the winter when it was opposite Lost.  Ugg.
My garden is exploding with cherry tomatoes. This is good for Rythter and Himself as they love them. I personally hate tomatoes, no matter how hard they try to convince me ( Read more... )

is fun to do. my tomatoes and peppers are just starting to produce, after a late planting season this year. didn't have time to plant beans or squash, but hey there is next year. designed an "x" stake support for my tomates out of 3/4" pvc pipe and fittings, which have holes drilled in the pipe every six inches. this allows me to string in the tomatoes with nylon cord and a needle made from a corn beef can key.

did suffer from tomatoe black blight, but recovered the rest by watering less. it seems too much water can damage the tomatoe fruit, thus suffer from "blossom blight" which blackens the bottom of the fruit. lucky also didn't suffer from a visit by the texas tomatoe worm, a hugh caterpillar that can devestate the entire plant in a day.

well soon the summer be over so can look forward to planting swiss chard and some quickpeas for the fall crop. have fun, Wildflower 06

Ok, so I have to ask, what part of the country are you in? My mother gets tomato horn worms, which sound very much like these Texas critters you are talking about. Big, gross, UGLY things with a horn like thing on their heads (or backs, not sure). Lukily I have never had them, but I don't do regular tomatoes, only cherry. I wonder if it makes a difference, or if it's just that they are not in my neighborhood.
I didn't have any blight on the tomatoes, but there is a bit of black stuff on my green beans, which have mostly gone past. I have some peppers that are doing well for a change, and I did pick one yesterday (and threw one out that was rotten, dont know what happened to that). I have never done well with peppers, so this is good. I wonder if I put peas in now if they would be in before frost? Probably not. Heck, its going down to the 50's in some places tonight. Only about 70 tomorrow. What does that mean for the season?
