A break in the weather?
I need to get a steamy hot sun icon.
Today's sticky icky heat with it's pathetic burst of rain is supposed to lead into a nice, dry, comfortable weekend. God I hope so. I feel so dragged out.
I'm really running out of things for Biv to do. Today we were washing the old headstones, which is a nice thing to do on a hot day. Its buys work in a way, but it also is something that does need to be done if the stones are going to be saved for future generations. Not that you'd know it this year, but for the last few summers it's been very wet, and the moss has been growing like crazy on the stones. The granite ones are fine, you can clean them easily and if not, you can always take a power washer to them, they hold up well. But the slate and marble stones are not sturdy enough to power wash. You take off layers of the marble, and with it the words on the stone, and with the slate, well, you can take the stone apart because so many of them are shattered internally, split over the years from weather. But the mosses and lichens the really aggressive nasty ones, can devour a stone. I don't see them so much on the marble, but they grow on the slate, very flat, but very hard to get off. And as you do scrub them off, you can actually see rings, which I assume are like growth rings. I counted six on one today.
I know the explosion of moss is new, because I have photo's from @ 1990 to compare to, and you can see how much has grown in the last few years.
So we spent time washing... la la la. I was going to take some photographs but forgot the camera.
I spent about 2 hours trying to correct the check book. And every time I think I've got it and I re-add everything it's still wrong. I give up for the night.
I saw an article in the paper about how someone in Israel was convicted of 'rape by deception' because they were Palestinian, but lied to a woman they met on the street and said they were Jewish, and then they had sex in a stairwell. She accused him of rape, but he's also being charged with 'rape by deception'. It sounds like it was consensual sex, but that she only had sex because she thought he was Jewish. Moral of the story is... before you lift your skirt, get to know the guy. If you are deceived about his origins, who is the fool? My sympathies lie with the liar in this case. Buyer beware and all that.
My legs seem to be back to mostly normal. Go figure.
