Today's funeral was for a former Marine who served in Iwo Jima. We had a contingent of Marines at the cemetery to give him a send off. Usually there are two or three of any particular service for an honor guard, but this guy got the full treatment. They had Marine poll bearers who then gave a three shot solute, which since I wasn't watching, made me jump.
The Marines did a good job, all working together to do their robotic moves, which took them about 5 full minutes to get the casket out of the hears and onto the grave. They almost put the coffin on backwards, and then I saw one guy stumble a bit and I thought for sure he was going to loose it, but he managed to get his footing and get the casket on without incident. Phew!
We got a call for another funeral this afternoon. We seem to be in one of those busy patterns.
Sunday I went to AC Moore to get a frame for my painting, but I realized when I was there that the coupon I had for Sunday was a $5. off coupon, and the 40% off coupon was not good until Monday. So I didn't get the frame, just a few odds and ends, and when I got to the counter the clerk asked if I had found anything. I gave her a kind of sigh and said "I guess so" and proceeded to explain that I was going to get a frame but the coupon was for another day. She then told me she had been putting the 40% coupons through all day and the computer was taking them. I said "really?". So I went back and got the frame I wanted, and saved $10.00 thanks to the young lady. I was very happy. Yeah, I don't really go to Michael's anymore. I like AC Moore better.
We started a still life at art class tonight. I'm taking the oil painting class again. I'm not thrilled with the still life exactly, but it's better than some of the pictures he's chosen for us. And it's practice.
I have stuff to look up. More later perhaps.
