Associated Press
You have got to be kidding!!
I heard this report on the radio, and I'm thinking the woman was trying to swim in a Burqa. Then I see what is basically just a full body suite that these women choose to wear that gives them the freedom to swim while still adhering to their religious modesty rules. What's the problem? French officials say it's a hygiene issue. Hygiene? IN FRANCE? Land of the unshaven women and unwashed populace? Land of the 'pee where you stand" people? Hygiene? Give me a break. It's a big bathing suite. That is all. Don't they chlorinate the water they swim in? Maybe they should. They say everyone has to shower first, so fine, what's the problem? As long as they wash the suit there isn't one. Any more than there is an issue with people having hair and going in the pool.
I have a vintage photo site on my friends list, where occasionally you see pictures of police checking out the length of the distance from a woman's bathing suit skirt to her knees. Because it used to be, in the 20's and 30's and maybe into the 40's, that it was illegal to have a certain length bathing suit on a woman. Here you have government telling women they CANT show leg. Now you have another government telling women it's wrong to COVER their legs, voluntarily. WRONG!!!. As long as it's not a safety issue, as long as it's voluntary , then MYOB.
And I wonder if an albino person wanted to swim, but had to wear some of that full body swimwear that is very popular to ward off sunburn and skin cancer, if they would have the same reaction?
BOOOO France in this instance.
