Erected
Biv asked me today what the word "erected" means. As in "this monument erected to the memory of ..." . I don't really blame her, I've found that even my own father is notoriously under educated on some simple (what I consider simple) word meanings. I blame the schools and the parents. READ TO YOUR CHILDREN people! You have no idea how much a kid can pick up in learning meanings from hearing how words go together. Even without knowing a word, you can get them to understand what it 'probably' means by context. Even if they don't read well, read TO them. Let them hear things that they can learn from.
We once had a group of kids come to our home on Halloween and they were obviously too old to be out tricker treating. One kid asked "What does PINNACLE mean?" I told him. He said "Oh, that old lady at the last house said we had reached the pinnacle of our career." And so he had.
Biv thought erected sounded dirty. She never had a brother with an Erector Set. lol
