We went to see Star Trek today, and I have to say I enjoyed it, although I didn't completely like everything in the movie. I get that it's a way of restarting the franchise, giving it new life, and I think the cast for the most part is very up to the task. I liked the new Kirk, Spock, and so on, although as I recall, the original crew did not include some of the 'core' people that were shown in today's movie. Oh well. I thought the three main characters of Kirk, Bones and esp. Spock were very good. Not so sure I liked the Scotty character or the Checkov character as much.
I thought for the most part the plot was pretty good. Still don't get why the Romulan ship looked so 'evil'. Kind of a lot of useless looking prongs for a mining ship. But all in all, as someone who watched the original show in re-runs for years, and waited in long lines on opening nights for the movies to come out, I found it to be entertaining and true to the original spirit of the show. Well, except for the scene on the ice planet. I mean, come on. What the hell was that all about? I also have to complain about the speed action shots. This is a complaint about movies in general. I don't know if it's to save on details in the background, because it all moves so fast you cant see what the hell is really happening, or if there is some other motivating factor, but I don't like it. Hold the damn camera still and pay the stunt man for gods sake!
Bunny was not to be seen today. That's good I think. He munched my violets. Damn vorpal bunny!
I got a dollar today with one of the "where's George" stamps on it. I reported it, and found that I have reported $16.00 so far. One ten and six ones. Of them only one has been reported again. Interesting.
There was a page of all kinds of solar lights in the circular the other day. Dozens and dozens of kinds of solar lights. Do you think they could come up with a practical, low cost solar panel for the home? Or is it still the battery thing? Nevermind the prize for the best space craft, or the best car. How about a prize for the best battery, organic if possible. I mean, if you can run a clock off a potatoe, should't there be a way to make an organic battery?
Since when did cat food become so expensive? $25.00 for an 8 pound bag of catfood? Wow.
And there was a sign again in the refrigerator saying that there is a mealworm shortage. What's up with that? Thank goodness I have a good supply at the moment, and the one gecko that still eats is apparently so full he cant eat anymore, so he could potentially go for a few months without food if the other one is any indication. I got them some fresh wax worms today. I know they love those, but I don't know if either will eat them right now.
