I got my renewal for my registration on my car yesterday. Now, it's funny that the registry can send out a renewal for the car registration, but they cant afford to send out a notice to let you know your driver's license is coming due. Both notices bring in revenue. Maybe the reason they can afford to send out a registration renewal is because with it, there were no less than 8 separate advertisements in the envelope. As a matter of fact, on of the adds is an add to advertise using this method. "The buckslip you are holding will be mailed to approximately 2.1 million registered vehicle owners in the state of Massachusetts this year.." There's an add for Bath Fitters, Amica, the Boston Globe, Jiffy Lube, Work Out World, NTB, oh, and one is an add reminding you that if it's your birthday, you need to check you license to see if it's due because while the RMV can take in advertising dollars to send out registration renewals, thus keeping you legal and them rolling in dough, they cant manage to do the same thing for license renewals. Again, the mind BOGGLES.
You know, Gov. Weld actually made registrations or licenses a one time thing. You only paid for it that one time, and it was going to be free for the rest of your life. That didn't last long, but I bet it saved a lot of postage.
Oh, and on the back of the actual envelope the stuff was all sent in there is an add to see if you want to get a specialty plate to support any number of charities, well, aside from everyone's favorite charity, the State of MA.
In the coupon section of the paper was an add for a 'Super growing, flowering shade tree."
I looked up the tree on line. It's a Royal Paulownia native to China. Sounds like a good tree, grows in cruddy soil, lots of shade, etc. It's leaves are very big, it reminds me of a catalpa. It's also considered invasive. Well, it did remind me that catalpa's are very good, native (I think) fast growing shade tree that does well in lots of soil conditions. They also have very pretty flowers. Only drawback is there pods that are like long cigars, and they can be kind of a pain, but other than that, not a bad alternative when you need the shade. I've planted a number of them in the cemetery, and they have done well and are helping the grass, which was the intent.
Just when I am in a writing mood, LOST is on. Oh well.
