And in the news:
"Hugo Chavez will unveil a project to change the constitution today that is expected to allow him to be re-elected in definitely..." I don't know if there is a large Jewish population in Venezuela, but things are sure starting to look a lot like Hitler down there.
"A report out today suggests an epidemic of thyroid disease in cats may be linked to flame retardants in carpeting and other household items." Glad I have the cheap Building 19 'oriental' rugs and not wall to wall. Of course mattresses are also on the suspect list, and if it can do things to cats, doesn't that mean it can have an effect on other mammals, even those that don't lick their bellies? And on the subject of "we need more chemicals in our diet", have you seen the Microban lunchboxes? Yes, your kid can now have a lunchbox (more of a bag) protected with Microban, which will help stop stains and mold. OH PLEASE! Like the lunch box is going to last long enough to get moldy? If they don't loose it in the first week, then they beat it to death in the second. How did we live without Microban? Oh, we had metal lunch boxes (probably had lead paint too), which our mothers washed out for us once in a while.
And speaking of lead paint... what are we going to give the little kiddies for Christmas? Will there even be a Christmas? I have a great cartoon I cut out of the New Yorker. It's two kids in a sparse bedroom and one kid says to the other, "my parents sent back all my suff that came from China." Lucky kid. Well, these are the times where I can be greatfull my child doesn't play with toys anymore, he just sits in front of a Wii. Wait, is there something in that Wii remote we should be awair of? Well, we ship them our batteries, they have to do something with the lead, don't they? Suck on that one.
"Dispute over memorial may slow new bridge. Minneapolis (AP) The preliminary design for a new interstate bridge doesn't include any room for a memorial to the victims of the collapsed span or other key features..." A MEMORIAL? When did it become necessary to put a memorial at the site of every death? Seriously, when did that come about? Can anyone remember the first time a building or something caused someone's death, and they put up a memorial, because it's the most asinine thing I have ever seen. What are they going to do, hold services there every year? I can understand working some kind of memorial into something as monumental as the twin towers collapse, but a bridge? That is something that goes into local history. You put up a plaque, and in 50 years someone says "what happened on that bridge that it has a plaque?" We have become a society obsessed with memorials. This bridge is a vital link for transportation. The only thing they should really be thinking right now is how to get a SAFE bridge back up ASAP. If you want to memorialize, go to the cemetery, or build a park (or revitalize one).
WTO warns of problems posed by sub prime loans. Can anyone say Bail Out? I think that is what the banks are looking for. If they do, I say go suck eggs. Any idiot could have told you what happens when someone overextends themselves on homes they knew they really couldn't afford. And all those banks and real estate brokers and home sellers were just bending over backwards to rake in the cash. But what goes up must come down, and we all know this, yet it still happens. And now it's affecting world banks? You talk about greed. And of course it's the little guy who ends up with nothing, the person who thought they could afford a home when they really couldn't.
ET's Phone home bill comes in
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,136068/article.htmlThe new I-phone comes with a bill so big it's sent in a cardboard box. 5 acres of rain forest were destroyed just for this months bills. Luckily you can get your bill on line if you want to.
I have to say to round things up that I HATE the DUH commercial. I can't stand it and I turn it off when it comes on. Rythter and I both jumped for the TV tonight to get rid of it when it came on. I guess I am not the only one.
Am I caught up? Well, for now I guess I am.
