Chinooks are not the thing of beauty they are in the foothills. As soon as those winds hit the prairies they become what is disparagingly called an Alberta Clipper.

NORTHERLY WINDS NEAR 15 KM/H AND BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE EXTREME WIND CHILLS OF MINUS 40 TO MINUS 45 TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING. AT THESE WIND CHILL VALUES, FROSTBITE CAN OCCUR WITHIN 5 MINUTES. OVER PARTS OF SOUTHWESTERN SASKATCHEWAN THIS AFTERNOON, STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS ARE DEVELOPING BEHIND A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM. NORTHWEST WINDS OF 60 GUSTING TO 80 KM/H WILL LAST FOR ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE DIMINISHING LATER THIS AFTERNOON.
Reprieve is in sight though. The usual cold for the next few days, then all the way to -1 for at least friday to monday. Sweet!
I love how much snow we have. Because I'm going out to the barn today after work I wore my winter riding boots, and in places the snow is almost to the top of them! I sure hope the back roads have been plowed, because as it is the little Intergra-with-no-name (I still like Crow Bait) is bogging down in the city as it is.
In related news, A literal example of having drank oneself stupid. a A man froze to death North of here on Saturday after escaping police custody. He was not wearing handcuffs but somehow got out of the back of the cruiser and fled, only to be found 30 hours later frozen to death on a snowmobile path. Genius.
