Part 437

Sometimes I write in the middle of the night on my laptop in the basement of Butterfield. Zapiski iz pod polya.

This is what the back of a box of Original Lever 2000 Perfectly Fresh soap, found in the convenience store in the Student Center, says:
People always notice an original, and it's certainly hard to miss our Original clean that won't leave your 2000 parts feeling dry. So leave your impression, too, with the fresh smell of clean. Not only will Part 437 notice, someone else's Part 437 will as well.

I decided to try not to buy all my meals, because I can't afford it, so if I eat my last Balance trail mix bar tonight, then I will have to go into a dining commons tomorrow if I want to eat anything at all. I want to go to Russia next year, because everyone else in my Russian class is better at comprehension than I am, and they've all been to Russia and I haven't, and maybe there's a connection. Sophie is concerned about the bugs that get into our room. I'm being an isolationist. I spend hours in the library with my cell phone off; I walk into town to Rao's and write poetry, which I'm only trying to do because my English class is actually a creative writing class, which is exciting but also annoying, because the teacher likes to make a big deal of how cool it is that we're writers. Our only purpose for reading literature in the class is to inspire our own writing, which is unacceptable -- you can't read Ginsberg's "Howl" and only think about your own style. "Your writing," she says over and over.
