I was going to sleep early. Then I ended up watching the History Boys.
It made me wonder why I had ever considered teaching, because the boys are little smart-assed snots. But very cute smart-assed snots, both in looks and personalities.
I didn't like Hector's pedo tendencies, but as a teacher he is so, so amazing. He really does get it, in a way so many literature teachers don't. In secondary school I had a really good literature teacher, but next to Hector-- well. She pales a lot, though I still loved her classes. I probably wouldn't have understood him in secondary school though, so just as well that I never came across a teacher like that.
And when Irwin brought the boys to that war memorial... Well. That wasn't even the most heartbreaking or thoughtful part of the film. And as for the ending... no spoilers, but I don't remember ever loving an ending this much, sad and sober and everyday as it was.
This is definitely going into my collection of awesome movies.
fangirling,
