Advice is cheap but I will give it to you anyway. As a supervisor for over 25 years, I will tell you that the best way to handle this is to use your OTHER reasons for rationalizing the switch. It will get you out from under a person that you do not respect but you will not make an enemy of him. As long as you are still going to be in the same company, you will have to work with him to some extent or at least see him now and then. If an employee who has only been there for 5 months knows all about the affair, you can bet that others do as well, probably including the upper levels.
You need to look out for yourself, make a good impression on the people that will be reviewing your application and get the better job. Once you are no longer in a subordinant position to this guy, you can bring up the hanky panky at an appropriate time with the appropriate people. But since you do not have the other job yet, and it does not sound like you can afford to lose or quit the one that you have, you do not want to bite the hand that feeds you. Cool your indignation for now and work on getting the better job. No one says you have to like your boss, just deal with him.
One more thing, covering for the sales manager only enables her to get away with that behavior. I know it is hard to do, but letting her events fall flat will bring her absences to the attention of the people who need to know. If you can claim innocence of the events but then jump in and "save the day", all the better.
