What happened on the ferry this morning

I was running late for the ferry this morning, or so I believed.  I managed to get on at the last minute, and felt the need to email Mum when I got to uni.  This is the following email ('Pony' is my nickname for my mother):

Dear Pony,

Well, I managed to board the CityCat, so to speak. I was the last one on, due to a spectacular four-and-a-half foot (give or take a few semi-inches) leap from shore to ship. Unfortunately, I stumbled into one person, making them stumble into another person, eventually causing this domino effect which knocked everyone sprawling, to the point where three people ended up overboard. Were I an able swimmer, I am certain the crew would have forced me to rescue them one by one. Fortunately, those in the water could swim, and were able to catch up to us.
The captain wanted to make me walk the plank, but common sense prevailed. Well, Strepsils prevailed when I distributed them amongst the crew. (They nearly came to fisticuffs over the last one!) I refused to hug the bedraggled rescuees in apology, because it would have ruined my new hoodie, so I had to promise them my first-born child. They plan to raise it together. Rather them than me. Not that I plan to go out and get knocked up to repay my debt to society. As for the rest of the passengers, I gave them pre-fame autographs which they can sell on eBay when I'm a well-known author or whatnot.
Anyway, I got to Tafe all right, where I decided to let you know what happened this morning, in case the river police call later. I had to give them our phone number over the radio. On the plus side, I nearly got to steer the boat. That was when they decided to put me into handcuffs for the rest of the journey. I think it was better for all that way. They kept me in the bathroom to keep me safe from the passengers.

Okay, maybe this really didn't happen. But top that for an exciting morning!

Love,

Gracie.
