Yes, well, one cannot read Kushiel's Chosen without being SO VERY PISSED AT JOSCELIN ALL THE TIME. He's an ass in that book. I mean, Phedre's a bitch to him sometimes, but usually only in response to him being an ass. And while in any other circumstance his hurt and anger would be understandable, I just can't help but scream "YOU MORON. You KNEW what she was and that she had no control over it. You KNOW you can't fulfill all her desires. You KNOW that's what she was trained to do. You STILL decided to make Cassiel's Choice, condemn yourself to a Cassiline's version of hell for this woman, KNOWING ALL OF THAT, and you're going to bitch and moan about it now? And threaten to forsake your vow and make your Choice a mockery? MORON."
Yeah, but then he learns his lesson when he thinks she's dead, doesn't he? And by Kushiel's Avatar he's had ten years to grow (and so has she), so he's awesome. And he breaks my heart so much in that book because his anguish just screams off the page ( ... )
