on the new sm and pinoy blond

because i am masa i went to see the new SM in what used to be the San Lazaro Hippodrome. as i approached the area, the hordes of masa came from every area possible. it was abit claustrophobic actually. a few more steps and i started missing the hippodrome even more. i have pleasant memories of that hippodrome - from my classmate's condo unit we could watch races, sometimes even a concert (parokya performed there once), and in general, my dad used to have us kids pick horse names from a list and he would bet on them. one of the few fond memories i have with him.

when Lito Atienza became mayor i really didnt like him - he had a thing for destroying really beautiful historic/architecturally important infrastructure - like the old Jai Alai bldg and recently the Mejan Garden. ironically, he was the one that had a TRO filed against the demolition of the hippodrome then. i have this thing for architecture. as much as a marcoses are hated in history, without imelda, what architecture and culture would we have? the little we have right now are remnants of her lunacy.

atienza promised to restore the metropolitan theater. if he does that by the end of his term i would love him forever.

watched the lfs of pinoy blond with james there as well. i havent really read review on it, nor am i a film critic of a credible sort - but its my lj anyway. i guess with all the advertising, i expected more (it was not your typical pinoy movie overkill). well, initially, i was confused with how wide they planned their market to be. but barring that. most of the music was inappropriate and/or took away attention from the scene. i didnt like the editing. although james had his own view on this, some of the cuts seem inappropriate - like in "rl" dialog and what not. i dunno, it just felt like the movie tried too hard. it was like being "different" for difference's sake. but given a different context - a different country or anything non traditional - it looses its purpose. ewan. the dialog got old for me.

i think its because i have a penchant for a more linear storyline. and i am a storyline person. a rather predictable flow with interesting ingredients along the way. i respect tribute movies and highly "personal" films, but it's never good to isolate the audience. quetin did it in Kill Bill. i'm lame. haha. but props to the effort. its always good to start the ball rolling. more to defying conventions.
