The Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen science fiction/fantasy/speculative fiction books that will always stick with you. Why? Because (1) SF/fantasy/spec fic has much to say about the world now and in the future, (2) the highbrow/lowbrow literary dichotomy is both annoying and false--see John Berger, (3) this is what you read for fun at night and what got you through high school, which are important things, and (4) I want to know what you read. Tag at least fifteen friends, including me! (To do this, go to your Notes tab on your profile page, paste rules in a new note, cast your fifteen picks, and tag people in the note.)
- Radio Free Albemuth by Phillip K Dick ("Once you become a Berkeley radical, you can never leave.")
- The Female Man by Joanna Russ (Obviously)
- the Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (Actually changed my life.)
For the rest, just fill in Phillip K Dick novels. Anything with a mood organ, a dystopian sales pitch or drugs that shape the reality of the world.
(I don't care if this is cheating. I've had little time to read fiction in the last 4 years, so I've really only read books by him.)
