Writing Meme

(Gacked from Rahirah... Turns out I'm a sucker for memes)

Keyboard or [insert various local names for pen-type implements] I fill at least one speckled composition notebook a month. I write with mechanical pencil in those. Then, I type everything in on my laptop to revise and edit. In the past year, I've written almost nothing but Spuffy and lesson plans in my speckle books.

Beta or no beta? Beta... but my beta's mainly a reader/cheerleader. I have thought about seeking an editor beta because I do tend to ramble on and on and my beta thinks that's just fine.

Plot? I love me some plot.

Title? Yes, but it changes as the story goes.

Smushy or smutty? Yes.

Summary? I suck at summaries too. The economy of words is not my bag. Hence, my poetry is always on the epic side of things.

Funniest fic? Probably parts of Wishes.  The story began as writing exercises with my now defunct writer's group. One of my fellow writers told me I couldn't write comedy. I set about to prove him wrong. Some of it is dang funny, dang it.

Most popular fic? Wishes.

Most fun to write? Any scenes with Andrew or Lorne. Some with Xander.

Best and worst? My favorite is Regrets. Best is probably what I'm writing now with Anywhere Out of This World, though it could use a judicious edit.

Worst: I co-wrote a sci-fi novel with a guy in my now defunct writer's group. It was called Omniverse. It was... awful, and he wanted to submit it to publishers sans editing. It had serious plot holes, was poorly paced and lacked any kind of cohesive character development. It was a nightmare. I finally handed the whole project to him, asked him to change the character names and walked away.

Coulda been contenders? Regrets. There's something pre-climax in that story that just doesn't carry the momentum through.

Strengths? Characterization. Description.

Weaknesses? Oh boy. I am guilty of going too easy on my characters. I have too many sub-plots. I'm not so great at editing things for optimal impact. I overuse words and phrases. My copy editing skills tend to bite.

Dirty little secrets? I said cock at Writercon.

It's embarassing, but I write whole erotic scenes to break down my personal inhibitions about things, but then I edit them out completely. Also, certain words give me a hard time. Like, I have this co-worker. His name is Dick. I can never call him by his first name.
So cheesy.
