Model Beijing Olympics - Procrastinating Update

Aug 11, 2008 17:11

To make room for my study schedule (which I am already behind due to unprecedented ease of distracting me during the weekend), I've listed all the events I wanted to see and their respective schedule of airing in Solar Entertainment.

[21:44 UPDATE] JB Walsh just finished first in his prelim heat for the 200m butterfly. As in it was so funny because the commentator didn't see it coming either. Hahahahaha. PANALO. Too bad he missed the semis because he ranked 29 overall lang x___X. *six whole seconds behind with Mr Phelps* [/end update]

As you know, the former ADHD diagnosed, DUI-charged Michael Phelps a.k.a. currently the greatest swimmer in the world, made early waves (pun obviously intended) when he won his first of his targeted eight golds in the 400m Individual Medley [who's female counterpart was coveted by Australia's Stephanie Rice, and if you follow her relationship with teammate Eamon Sullivan, makes things really more interesting ^__~ Pre-Beijing Drama!]. I am actually interested only in the events at the water cube [The National Aquatic Centre], because my Chinese element is actually water (according to the Internet), and I don't know, chlorine gets me high and I have a penchant for it. [A third of the Filipino contingent are competing in swimming events, namely for the Men the 200m IM, 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 1500m freestyle and for the Christel Simms, a Fil-Am from Hawaii, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle - so be sure to catch them!!]

Which reminds me, I saw this a couple of weeks back when I was obsessing over Lego:

This is an amazing recreation of the Hong Kong Lego User Group [via HKLUG]

Today, I found a similar re-modelling of another Beijing Olympics icon:

Now the interesting part was this model was made by Chinese FARMERS in the southeast countryside. While HKLUG is probably a special interest group in Urban Hong Kong, what this goes to show that there's really an overall hype for the event from the People's Republic of China. [via Gizmodo]

So yes, Yang might think that the Olympics is an insult to all the problems of China (and this might further attest to it), but really, the Olympics is a symbolic celebration of world unity. Not to mention a source of endless entertainment. [Trust me you want to click this]
