SONIC BOOOOOM!

Jun 23, 2007 11:44

So, did you guys hear the sonic boom yesterday?
It seems that the Space Shuttle Atlantis wasn't able to land in Florida due to bad weather conditions, so they traveled a few extra miles to land at Edward's Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert.  And, this of course meant one thing for all of us in SoCal...SONIC BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

It happened yesterday around 1pm.  I totally heard it.  The last time I consciously heard a sonic boom was when I was in High School.  I happened to be walking back to class in the empty halls and there it was...boom!

Anyway...if you missed it, one of the LA Blogs recorded it and posted it as an mp3.  Click here to take a listen.

Yesterday, I spent a good hour in Amoeba before the movie.  I had no idea that there was an entire back section devoted to Blues and Jazz!!!  Oh man...I ended up spending almost the entire hour in that section.  There were so many CD's I wanted to buy...but in the end, I only bought one.  Mainly because I'm broke.  However...it is a CD I've wanted for a very long time...and it was only $5.  :)

I've written here in the past how much I love the trumpet.  One of my favorite trumpet players is Harry James.  He was most renowned for the popular music of the day.  In fact, his band was one of the first bands to employ Frank Sinatra as a vocalist!  However...Harry James was also a great Jazz Trumpetist.

The CD I found strictly focused on his Jazz recordings.  The fact is, it's just thrilling to hear him play.  His solo's are fantastic and his improvisational style is envious.  The tracks span 10 years of Jazz - 1937 - 1947...this is my kind of Jazz.  This is the kind of jazz that makes me see god.  I ended up listening to this CD all night....falling into a  most relaxing and exhilirating sleep.

Today's kind of chill.  All I have is the 5pm mass.  So, I think I'm gonna do a little bit of catch-up here at home and stop ignoring a couple important items I've shoved into a corner.  Although, supposedly my brother is in town and my mom mentioned a family dinner...but I really really don't want to see her.  I need some more recovery time.

blarg.

I got my work schedule for next week.  I'm working every except Monday.  Still waiting to hear back about the weekend.  Also, though they've promised to respect my "no closing shift" availability, for the general good of a well-rounded training, I've agreed to take on a few closing shifts.  Frankly, I think the best job can be done when you have a full understanding of everyone's job.  Anyway...this week, I'm working the 3-10pm shift on Wednesday and Thursday.  Oh!!!  And, I'm working all week in the Westwood Viillage location.

Anyway...yeah.  It's breakfast time.

Being broke can Suck It!
