Have had a good time visiting with my dad; we went out for the best hamburgers in the world (yes, really, they are the best I have ever had, at O'Connell's Pub, where I have eaten them intermittently my whole life) for lunch today, and talked with my grandparents tonight after watching the Cardinals lose to the Pirates, 7-9. Will be off home tomorrow, so offline all day but on at night (assuming that my internet connection at home is working properly, of course).

Back to the unpacking... and the plumber and electrician... and the 90,000 other things that have to be done. Oh, well, a holiday can't last forever, I guess. And it'll be nice to be back to where I can talk with SO without paying $1 a minute or more.

Although I brought fic to work on, I've done very little on either of the ones I'm drafting by hand, but some cowriting has happened. Also (not surprisingly) did not get anything done on the professional stuff I have with me. Did read Jared Diamond's Collapse which I found very interesting. It's a synthesis, so obviously he cannot go into as much depth as one might like, but having taught world history surveys I knew enough about most of the societies he talked about to find him mostly convincing. He does not go for one-cause explanations or oversimplify, and I appreciated that. Worth a look, if you haven't read it.
