Overheard

I had to run out to the grocery last night to pick up Neufchâtel for SO's dinner recipe - who couldn't do it, being on the phone with a parental unit. Standing in line I heard the two women behind me discussing their various ailments and medications and allergies to said medications. They then started praising Jesus for all their blessings.

Moment of sheer cognitive disconnect for me. Sorry, I just don't get that attitude. There was a certain synchronicity though, since I had to break off writing a lecture on ancient Israel in order to run this errand in the first place. Sometimes I wonder how many modern Christians really grasp the notion that Jesus was an observant Jew.

For my money, I shouldn't have had to hear any of the conversation. I don't want to know about random strangers' medical problems, that's for certain, and I'm equally uninterested in hearing them testify to their faith. Rude to impose either of those on others.

On a totally different note, I've just gotten back in touch with a friend from college - which is very cool. She's the one who gave me the nickname I had for all of my college years, and which resulted in my tattoo: Moonbeam.

random life stuff, friends
