Meme as seen on several LJs recently...
1. Your favorite fic you've written: That's probably a tossup between
Courting the Lady, which is a Denethor/Finduilas novella-length romance set in Minas Tirith and written in a style that's kind of a pastiche of Tolkien and Jane Austen; and "
Passing," which is a Harry Potter/History Boys crossover with Remus Lupin and Tom Irwin. In both cases I felt like I told the story I wanted to tell, as well as I could do so.
2. Your least favorite fic you've written: Eep. Difficult to say... maybe "
The Quarry," which is an Éomer/Faramir short story and one of the earliest things I wrote; I think also the first slash fic I wrote. It's not terrible, but I've never been completely happy with it.
3. Your most popular fic: By hit count on AO3, far and away that is "
Notches on a Broomstick," total porn-without-plot in the HP fandom that pairs Harry with practically every student at Hogwarts (or so it seems like).
4. The fic you wish more people would read: "Elves and Potatoes," a gen-fic with Sam, Bilbo, and Frodo, in which Bilbo "learns Sam his letters"; or else "
Communion," a totally different type of fic, a Harry Potter AU in which Draco is intersex and genderqueer.
5. The fic you most enjoyed writing:
Three Men, co-written with
cruisedirector; it has Remus, Severus, and Harry in varying combinations and indulging all kinds of kinks, and is largely crack!fic. Collaborating when it flows well is more fun than writing solo any day.
6. Your funniest fic: I don't think I'm very good with humor... perhaps "
The Arrangement," which is a Good Omens ficlet (and that's a fandom where you almost have to write humor), Aziraphale/Crowley.
7. Your hottest fic: Hotness is so subjective, isn't it? I guess I'll go with "
Black Boots," which is Chekov/Sulu, and about as close as I've ever written to a fetish fic.
8. The fic you'd like to be remembered for: Another question where it's awfully hard to choose. Er. I'm oddly fond of "
Just to Say," which is a Harry/Severus ficlet incorporating the William Carlos Williams poem "This Is Just to Say." It's in my top ten favorites of my own pieces, but I'm not quite sure why; I guess just because I was happy with the imagery? It also is on the smutty side for something that's less than 400 words long.
9. The thing(s) your fic contributed to fandom headcanon: I have no idea. Probably nothing? I have occasionally had someone tell me that a fic I wrote influenced their ideas of a character, or the backstory, or something, but I don't think that translates to a contribution to fandom headcanon at large. If I could pick something that I hope thus contributed, maybe "
Friends," which is a Narnia fic, focused on Jill Pole and set during and after The Silver Chair. I think Jill is an underrated character.
10. First fic you wrote/published: It's hard to tell. According to AO3 that is "
A Choice Once Made," which is actually a Silmarillion fic about Tar-Míriel, the last Queen of Númenor, but I think either the first chapter or two of "
In His Brother's Shadow," a Faramir-focused gen fic, or "
Language Lessons," about the young Boromir, actually were written and posted slightly earlier. My very earliest fics were LotR and posted on discussion boards at
TheOneRing.net, in an earlier incarnation of the site, and there's probably no way any longer to find out which was the very first.
11. Latest fic you wrote/published: I'm going to go with the latest fic that's at least 1000 words, i.e. excluding drabbles and ficlets; that would be "A Friend in Need," which is a The Breakfast Club fic in which Claire is in trouble and turns to Allison for help.
12. What are you working on now?: Assorted drabble/ficlet requests, mostly. I have a couple of longer stalled WIPs waiting for me, but they're going really slowly. I'm (probably) going to sign up for Yuletide, which ought to force me to write something that's more than a ficlet again...
Today's ficlet is from the Narnia universe:
