Today totally feels like a Monday (squared), since it's the first work day of the week, but OTOH I am working the reference desk evening shift, which is normally a Tuesday thing. Just to make it extra-special there's some sort of big network server problem so none of the students can log on to the public computers. GROWL.
Juno had a good long explore at the farm last Friday. They had no eggs (I'm hoping next week they will) but the bag included: basil, arugula, ~1 lb. okra, ~2 lb. apples, 2 cantaloupes, and 4 baby eggplant.
We're eating through the arugula in combination with some spinach, topped with grilled eggplant, grilled mushrooms (button + shiitake), and
sweet-hot cilantro dressing. The okra I cooked and froze, as usual (I can do that with up to two more batches of okra to match the number of containers of gumbo). Cantaloupe is all cut up for easy eating. I made
basil pesto and froze it in an ice cube tray (this filled six cubes; a cube is enough for a pound of pasta, IMA). The apples will go into lunches. I also used up the old cabbage finally as
braised cabbage. All that's left now from previous weeks is a few radishes and some hot peppers, huzzah!
We had sausages and
herbed oven fries on Sunday, and I made
summer pasta salad to take to a Labor Day potluck; made a recipe and a half, and put chicken in half (for us for dinner a couple of times this week) and toasted pine nuts in the other half (since we were just supposed to bring a side dish); both halves got grilled zucchini, roasted red bell pepper, tomatoes, and capers. I also found a recipe online that is a recreation of a dish from a restaurant I ate at several times back in college, so we had
Killer Shrimp on Saturday and will have it again tomorrow (I froze half the shrimp and will thaw them in the fridge overnight).
It was a fairly low-key weekend. We did go down to SO's university town for the holiday, potluck with some of his colleagues. We also went out to a wine bar on Saturday night (after the killer shrimp) because SO wanted to have a date that wasn't just our usual Friday dinner out. Sunday I went (solo) to see Brave, which came back to my preferred cinema (I presume to get the Labor Day weekend family crowd) after having been gone for a couple of weeks. I enjoyed it quite a bit and will definitely pick that one up on dvd, as I think SO will also like it a lot.
No writing got done over the holiday, and today has been super-busy at work (I've sneaked this post in bit by bit, really). So it'll be a few days I suspect before I get around to the prompt drabbles. Just FYI and sorry for the delay!
Oh, and it is HOT again here, highs back above 100 degrees. Ugh. Someone needs to share the memo with Mother Nature that it is September and we should be cooling down!
