Busy weekend (do I ever have any that aren't?)

Saturday SO and I volunteered for Coats for Kids, which is pretty much what the name suggests: a giving-away of winter coats (mostly new, some good-as-new/gently used) to kids who otherwise wouldn't have any. It's organized by some people associated with the house church that our next-door neighbors are part of, which is how we got connected to it. SO was one of the people doing data entry (they get some basic info on who gets the coats, for numbers-crunching to help in future perhaps write grant/funding applications), and I was a "co-shopper", going with families to find coats to fit each kid. Pretty enjoyable, although we were there about 3.5 hours so it pretty much ate the morning, and definitely a Good Thing to do - although it was kind of sad towards the end because we ran out of some of the sizes and had to tell some of the kids we just didn't have anything that would fit them.

Besides that, I did 5 loads of laundry, went to 2 grocery stores, and cooked. Ahead of time for Thanksgiving (because they need to marinate several days): cranberry relish and pickled peaches. For yesterday: butternut squash with apples (made enough to also take to tonight's community dinner), cheesy potato puff, and retro turkey loaf. Also cooked up sausages for Monday, and broccoli ditto. I'll be making the usual Thanksgiving dishes on Thursday: turkey (organic this year), gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, and I'm trying sweet potato pie for the first time, too, with a variation of a recipe I found online.

Today I painted, mostly, after we walked Juno and I had breakfast. The second chunk of room is now duly green, and I touched up the ceiling in that section too. Just need to pull the painter's tape off now. Well, and paint the windows for that section and the previous one. But I think I should be able to get the whole thing done by the end of Thanksgiving weekend, barring the one section of wall that SO needs to repair before it can be painted. He may start working on the central hallway downstairs on Wednesday, too, and if we're lucky we might get that space finished also before my mom and sister come. My hope is to prep the next section of the study on Tuesday afternoon when I come home early.

I must be getting old because I did a classic old person thing on Saturday morning; I slipped and fell in the bathtub while I was getting out of it. OW. Banged up my left shin, right knee, and right hip. I have a really fantastic purple bruise on my hip; the other two spots are less obviously bruised, but swollen (especially the shin) and sore. Sigh. I felt really dumb, too.

Only three days of work this week - the library is actually closed, completely, on Thursday and Friday - and I am happy about that. Am going to try to go to bed extra-early tonight as tomorrow is my late night; I generally have trouble sleeping on Sunday nights so am hoping that an early bed will mean more sleep anyhow. Am fairly tired from painting so it might work...
