Checking Things Off and Finds

Today went pretty well even though it started off rather bumpy. I woke up at the right time and then went back to sleep and woke up right when I was meant to be at work. Since I drive to work it was fine and I finished all the things I needed to. I'll go back to America Reads next week to wrap some things up, but I'm pretty much done there ( Read more... )

You really should as you don't get Sameth until the second and third book. I'll try and not put any spoilers here.

I love Sameth, I love how different is from everyone else in his family. He's someone who creates instead of being a fighter first. He can fight and knows how to be a warrior but that's not his primary identity. Though that's also complicated but I just love that in this trilogy built on death, you have someone who tinkers and makes things.

Kait is really my OTP for him. They work and she's so incredibly good for him.

Nick Sayre who's Sam's best friend from school and they also just work.

I don't think he and Lirael belong together. I don't actually follow fandom that much but during Yuletide some people seem to like them and I don't see it.

I wish canon had done more with him. Garth Nix has great world building powers but not a lot of them were used on Sam. Also as the canon goes on, you're less in his head and so at times he comes off badly. I know he's a guy going through some hard times, but at points I was annoyed at how he wasn't given enough space to react.

Nix is a wonderful author. I've read the start of Keys to the Kingdom but not all of it. Its on my list. Shades Children is a haunting dystopia he wrote that I also enjoyed. He's written a lot and I've yet to read everything of his.

If you can try and find a way to read or listen to Creature in the Case after the trilogy as its a wonderful post canon story that adds a lot to Nick. That's also in a collection of short stories of his called Across the Wall.

I know they're out on audio books as that's how the_croupier got through the Abhorsen Chronicles, so its worth checking out.

Oh, I didn't know about that, but I know there's another series about a Tower that's for younger readers.

Book posts are wonderful things. I did read the first Keys to the Kingdom book and loved it. Its just a matter of having access to them all and reading them through.
