Part 1 is
Here “You’re more than that to me, so much more. When I tell people, when *we* tell people, I want it be because *we* want to tell them. I want us to be sitting round a dinner table with our friends. Maybe knocking back drinks in a bar. I want everybody to see that we’re telling them because we *want* to, because we can’t go another day with them not knowing about us, how happy you make me and how much I love you…”
----------------
Tony wanted to take back the words as soon as he’d said them. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. He was Tony DiNozzo, the horndog who changed his partners more often than his underwear. He wasn’t a man who fell in love. Saying it to Jeanne had been for the mission, and well he’d have said anything to keep on her good side. More fool her for thinking she was in love with him, she hadn’t a clue that he wasn’t a man that *anybody* should fall in love with. And now he’d probably gone and ruined things with Palmer by not being able to hold his tongue.
Jimmy was a smart kid and surely knew that this was just temporary arrangement. He’d been burned once before with Lee, he certainly wasn’t going to be looking for anything more than just two good friends, each of them being there when the other needed him. But right now Tony felt like he needed Jimmy more than ever, and couldn’t imagine a time when he’d not need him. Which was exactly why he should have kept his damn fool mouth shut and not scared the kid off.
“Jimmy, I…” That was all Tony managed to get out before Jimmy leaned in and kissed him full on the lips.
Gently at first and then with increasing fervor as the seconds passed. Finally he pulled away, letting his forehead rest against Tony’s for a few seconds. “I know,” he said simply. “I’ve always known.”
“But how…”
“Because I love you too.” Jimmy moved around on the bed until he was sitting beside Tony, one arm around his back, holding him close. “I just don’t think I realized how much until Doctor Mallard told me you’d been injured…told me you could have been killed.” He pulled Tony closer to him. “I could have lost you then, and afterwards when you needed somebody, I couldn’t be there for you.” He rested his chin on top of Tony’s head. “But I’m here now, as long as you need me I’ll be here.”
Tony clasped Jimmy’s hand in his, holding it against his chest. “I can’t imagine a time when I won’t need you…when I won’t *want* to have you by my side,” he said softly as he leaned back against Jimmy’s chest. “Don't...don't leave me.”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
“I don’t just mean tonight.” Tony twisted slightly until he could look up at Jimmy. “I mean every night.” He took a deep breath, “We could, if you wanted I mean, there's enough room here for both of us, or we could get a place together, rent a place or...” He bit his lip to stop himself babbling. “I don't want to be alone, I don't want to be alone without *you*...”
“Are you asking me to move in with you? But you've always said you needed your own space...”
“I need you more.” Tony held on to Jimmy's hand as if it was a lifeline. “Look, you don't have to say yes right away...just...just don't say no...”
Jimmy raised Tony's hand to his lips and kissed it gently, “When have I ever said no to you?”
“The last time I suggested playing hooky and staying in bed all day?” Tony tried to smile but couldn't.
“I think this is something we need to talk about properly. There's a lot of things we'd need to discuss before moving in together, how to split the rent, the bills. Whether we'd stay here or get a new place,” said Jimmy. “But all that can wait until morning. For tonight I'm here, and I'm not leaving.”
“Tonight, that's all I need,” said Tony. He let his eyes close as he leaned back against Jimmy and felt the younger man's arms encircle him, holding him safe. Tonight he was with Jimmy and nothing could hurt him. And tomorrow, well tomorrow would be a new day and a new beginning for both of them.
The End
(for now anyway)
