So far, 2007 is...well, it just is I guess.
This weekend saw a really wicked awesome Lee Press-on and the Nails concert. I'm glad they've reunited, as I truly have missed going to their shows. Went with Sheyne, Glenn, Marc, to Union Square for dinner first and then down to DNA lounge where we met up with Jenny G, Tom, Jenny S, Gail and Kevin. Good times, good people.
Yesterday was Liz's dad's "funeral." I use the term sort of loosely because it was actually more of a concert at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley. Liz's dad was in this band that was apparently pretty big in their day, with Elvis Costello saying directly that they influenced his music and that he wouldn't be around without them. (cool!) So one of the other band members (and Liz's godfather) put together a concert of sorts with Brien's friends. His nickname was "the kid" and so Liz and her brothers got up and performed some of their songs, under the title "the Kid's kids." When Liz got up to sing with just her and her godfather, I think it ripped my heart straight out...the song was really really beautiful (one that her dad sang lead vocals on) and she was up on stage looking through the skylight singing to the sky with more hurt in her eyes then I think I've ever seen in my life (and we've been there for eachother through a LOT) It just broke my heart to see her hurting so badly...but when she stopped singing she was back to being herself and was cracking jokes and telling rambling stories and the like. John and Brien were so awesome for getting up on stage like they did, I'm so proud. It clearly shows how much their dad meant to them that they'd step SO far out of their comfort zone to stand infront of an audience and perform.
So 2007 has already seen its share of heartbreak, but I can only wonder what is in store for the rest of the year, or if it could possibly match the despair brought by 2006. Only time will tell, I guess, but we're certainly not off to a very good start.
