Fanfic; The Best Vice Captain, the Worse Vice Captain

Sep 21, 2009 17:15

Many thought Hinamori Momo of the 5th Division suffered the greatest. She was a loyal and dedicated Vice Captain that many of the other Captains would have gladly traded for. She was forced to face the fact her Captain had been murdered by a comrade, only to have him return and make an attempt at her life. She left friends drowning in guilt as it looked like she would never recover. While her body was able to eventually return to the life it once had, everyone knew her mind was set on her “Captain Aizen”. Aizen had to be killed and no one was able to tell her, and they all wondered if somewhere deep inside she knew. Somewhere buried beneath the illiusion Aizen had cast over her heart, did Hinamori understand what her former-Captain had done, did she realize one day there would be a world where he didn’t exsist? Was she even able to comprehend it?

“Hinamori!”

“I’m not here as Captain Aizen’s subordinate. I am here as the leader of the 5th Division.”

“He is the enemy.”

No one knew when, nor how she had made so much progress forward. No one knew she had become so strong.

Some thought Kira Izuru of the 3rd Division was the Vice Captain that suffered the most at the end of the betrayal. Half of the people that whispered had not trusted Ichimaru Gin to begin with, and they wondered what Kira, the fox’s Vice Captain had had to endure while Ichimaru was scheming with Aizen. They all knew Kira had to go through trials of suspicious accusations shortly after the betrayal. Assault on a fellow Vice Captain. Escaping from his cell. Harbouring the traitors Aizen and Ichimaru when he knew of their plans. Working with them in these plans. Attacking another Vice Captain. While somehow Kira has escaped every charge thrown at him, he was left with all of Soul Society watching him as though he were a ticking bomb. Some said that Kira was suffering the full onslaught of the betrayal. He felt the pain Hisagi was ignoring, and the pain Hinamori didn’t realize she was suffering.

“So you were beneath Ichimaru Gin?”

“Do not ever mention that name in front of me.”

No one knew when he had cut his ties with his former Captain, and no one knew just how dangerous he was when he had to be.

One or two people wondered if Hisagi Shuuhei of the 9th Division had suffered the most, because who could have suspected the blind man? But it was exactly this. Everyone felt just as betrayed by Tousen, everyone thought Hisagi was sharing his pain with everyone, because he showed no sign of suffering. His heart was wounded, but he held his head high and quickly filled the duties of their missing Captain. Everyone admired him and looked at him in a positive light as the legendary Hisagi Shuuhei lived up to his name. Hisagi was hurt, but surely he was not suffering, because he had not been so attached to his Captain, because he had not been manipulated into fighting his best friends, because he was so strong.

“…Hisagi…!"

“It’s been a long time, Captain Tousen. I am here to open your eyes, and bring you back to Soul Society.”

No one knew Hisagi was in denial. No one knew Hisagi hadn’t let go. No one knew Hisagi, would be the only one that couldn’t kill his former-Captain.

Hinamori took small steps as she pieced together the truth and came to terms with the fact that the Aizen Sousuke she loved had never truly exsisted. She broke free of Aizen’s illusion.

Kira finally gave in to the suspicious thoughts and uncomfortable feelings he had experienced over the years, and jumped at the chance to make Ichimaru Gin pay. He stepped off the long straight, silver path.

Hisagi had not moved since the betrayal, he believed even now that Tousen Kaname was simply blind to the truth and it was his job to bring him into the light. He didn’t realize, that Tousen had trapped him in his senseless world, the moment Hisagi became Vice Captain of the 9th Division.
