Room transfer newbie question

My friends and I currently have a room at the Hilton (non refundable deposit). We would prefer to have a room at the Marriott. Assuming we do get lucky tomorrow morning how difficult is it to transfer the hilton room and (this is the big one) get our deposit back? How does that work? Do the people we are transferring to pay us or does the Hilton refund us and charge them? We are room transfer newbies so any hints would help.
