I'm just under a month into work and I find myself with a week's annual leave. Hurrah. And I received my first ever pay cheque (I don't really count the few pounds I earned working in the buttery in third year) last week. So I have some time, a little bit of money and no guilt over spending it as I've actually earned it myself instead of just taking it from my parents. Win win win. Incidentally "win win win" was written in the window of Debenhams in York the other day. It made me smirk even though I'm pretty sure that it was an unintentional Office reference. Although who knows? Perhaps the window dresser is a closet Jam or Dwangela shipper.
The only problem with having a random prearranged week of vacation is that all my friends are at work (or in fun places like Kuala Lumpur... I'm looking at you Nush...) so I'm pretty much stuck on my own. I got pretty down over this last week. In fact I almost blew all my money on a trip to Chicago (I've been saying I'm going for about ten years now... and goddammit I am going) to cure my boredom. Instead I went to visit my parents for a couple of days and took them out for dinner as opposed to the other way around. It's only taken me nearly twenty-five years. I got back to York last night and spent an insane amount of time trying to pack and not getting very far. I finally finished this morning and now I'm speeding southwards (well sort of crawling at the moment but I'm hoping it will pick up...) towards London. In line with my holy mantra "if in doubt, go to the city" I've booked into a hotel (it looks quite swish from the website and it's well located and I still don't know how I obtained a room for the price I did... I hope it's as good as they make out!) for a couple of nights. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do but there's always something fun going on. If I were a betting girl I'd say I'll end up watching Wicked! again. I've semi-justified it to myself as the cast has changed (the woman playing Elphaba has gone off to play her on Broadway... so there goes my justification for watching it again in NYC...). And then on Thursday I'm going home to Oxford. Hurrah! I think it will be a little weird being back in my old room when it's technically not my room but it will be lovely to see Nicky again.
I jinxed the train by talking about "speeding". It just stopped for several minutes... surely it now owes me a Coke. Still it's quite comfortable sitting here tapping away on my MacBook, sipping diet Coke and listening to music. It beats stabbing little babies with needles for sure. That would be stabbing them with needles in order to obtation small blood samples on which to run vital tests... I'm not a masochist... I just wanted to clear that up.
Do I get a Dundie now for the most covert Office references in a post?
