You know, I've been pretty lucky up till now not to encounter very much badfic. Sure, I know it's out there but I have a tendency to stick with authors I know, or to read recc'd fic and so other than the occasional glimpse, I've managed to avoid it.
I just...I. Okay, there are literally tears streaming down my face. I don't know if it's from the horror or the humor. It's says unbetaed right there on the fic, admittedly, but you know, unbetaed is one thing. No spell check, random capitalization and punctuation, and so many typos it's nearly impossible to read an entire sentence, is something else entirely. There should be something stronger to call it than merely unbetaed. At points it seemed like it was typed with the person's eyes closed. It felt very esl, but I've certainly read esl fic before that at least managed to capitalize the character's name every time. I can't even tell if characterization, plot, etc... are any good because I can't get through a paragraph with any coherency.
And the thing is, it was recommended. I didn't just stumble across it and take a chance. The word 'amazing' was used in relation to this fic, and while it is indeed that, I clearly didn't understand the context in which it was being used.
I finally get the appeal of mocking badfic. I've always felt bad before, but you know I sort of want to read this out loud to people. I mean if the author couldn't really bother to put any effort into at least looking over the fic before posting(and even a simple glance through would have caught a lot of the typos), then I can mock with a clear conscience.
badfic,
