Challenge: Day 7

Mar 26, 2007 08:51

Today is the halfway point! Yay!

I wrote 7 pages this morning; I'm at 70. I need five more today to be on target and I think I can do it. :) Act II is going to be fun. I had some great ideas while reviewing my verbal collage. Still lots of unknowns but it's going well. The characters are doing a few unexpected things, which is a good sign. I do know I need to add some bulk to the main plot in this act; I have a ton of ideas for Acts III and IV on the main plot but getting it from where it is now to the aggression in the later acts, I'm not 100% sure how to do it yet. I always did hate "transitions." Not that the whole act is a transition, but it's got a lot to do.

To do today:
- Write 5 pages of OMWF
- Rewrite 3 pages of Senior Project
- Write one history page
- Finish tweaking resume; start cover letter
- Conference with essay professor at 1pm; have peer critique written by then

About that last thing... M and the in-laws have laid the smack down on the job hunt. As in, I need to start it pronto. They're right, of course, but I have this social anxiety disorder that makes the very idea of sending strangers my stuff in hopes they'll have a posiition absolutely terrifying, even though I know I have a solid resume and transcript. The biggest problem is I'm clueless about where to send it. PBW found a list of publishing related companies for me a while ago; I must dig it out again and check off the ones I can "cold-call." I hate this, so if my writing suffers, it will most likely be because of focusing on this, not even school work. The due date for my history paper got pushed back from this Friday to next Wendesday, so I'm not concerned.

Although the bit of a break I had this weekend was much needed (see my little mood indicator). I had headaches Thurs-Sat every day so when that happens I know to back off, and now I think I'll be okay. Will hopefully not spend toooo much time online today and will get work done. Right? Right.

Afternoon update: Great News!
M has a meeting at church at seven o'clock; we have a birthday party during our usual Bible study time at 745, so I'll write the rest of my quota while he's in his meeting (I'm on page 71 now. I had a spare ten minutes so I added a page and a half). I'm going to work on my cover letter. It's amazing how the Lord works. I just posted this morning how scary this is for me, and there was an email from the chair of my department to come by her office in my inbox after kendo/fencing class. Turns out I won an award at graduation for excellence in the creative writing program! Normally there's a $50 prize with it, but I'm splitting it with my classmate Tim. I'm really honored because Tim is an awesome writer, and I wouldn't have been surprised if it had come down to us and they picked him over me; in the past decade there has only been one other year where the prize was split. I only transferred to the program two years ago, so I'm really surprised and touched that the staff would pick me. But I get to put this on my resume, and it will go in any letters of reccommendation I need or references I include, so it gave me the boost I need to get in gear about a job hunt. I can do this (and I'm a great writer)! So my project for the next hour is cover letter and history page. :)
