So Joel surprised me this weekend. He couldn't keep a Christmas secret for long (he's already kept the secret for, like, seven months already) and told me what he got/is getting me for Christmas. In case you couldn't tell by the subject of this post, it's another puppy. We've been talking a lot how nice it would be for Islay to have a companion (and me to have another companion, hee hee), so he contacted Islay's breeder and one of her dogs just had puppies at the end of September.
Joel decided to tell me early so that I wouldn't miss out on the experience of being able to visit the puppy before getting to take her home (which will be in December). I think that was a good decision on his part even though I really generally prefer surprises. We visited the puppies today (there were five, two boys and three girls) and they were ridiculously adorable. We are getting a girl and while the name our breeder gave her is Elsie (she always names her puppies before their new homes give them names). We are naming her Iona, keeping with the western isles theme (and it fit so nicely with the name Islay . . . we thought of Skye, but Iona was too perfect).
I'm really excited to get a new puppy, even if it does mean going through potty training again. Westies are such delightful dogs and it is going to be a lot of fun (after all Islay is a lot of fun, why not make it double the fun with two westies? And they're so darned collectible, you really can't have just one!).
Here are photos of the puppies. The first seven there are from our breeder (Catherine), and the rest are ones I took today. I really like these two:
The one on her hind legs is Iona. She's a spunky little girl. Catherine says "she doesn't walk, she swaggers!"
This is Iona and me bonding. We're BFF already.
Here are two videos Joel took --
the first is all the puppies playing and
the second is of Iona (the big westie that comes in is Flirt, her mum).
I'm totally excited. :-)
