Two days off work now; there's a lot I want to get done. A bit of spring cleaning (ironic, as we're now heading into Autumn in NZ), but certainly, change is in the wind... I've been dropping hints on my FA account, if you've been looking there. It's all going to come together soon.
In the interim, I just have to totally share my absolute love of this new song I've picked up by Patrick Wolf, called 'Vulture'. I've literally listened to it about ten times daily for the last two days. Though the hipster kids have pimped him often, I've previously not thought much of Mr. Wolf; his music, his voice, nice enough has been just that - 'nice'. He's got that Boy Next Door look about him, which might please some but strikes me as distinctly dull. I mean, if you're going to have 'Wolf' in your name, you should be at least a little edgy. Got to have a bite.
This was until one of my old favourites, industrial / electronic noisemaker
Alec Empire got a hold of him! This year they collaborated for Patrick's next single and it's dynamite! Alec's last couple of releases left me feeling cold - but in the first (only?) song released from their partnership, Vulture gives me exactly what I've been looking for from both of them for some time. Wow. Song of the YEAR. It has a few twists and turns, and didn't finish how I expected as it began... and I loved every second of it.
It's a secret that some people know, some people might not, that my
furry character Achilles (see icon) has a fictionalised backstory; in this other universe, Achilles is a musician and international alternative icon; for the first time with 'Vulture', I have a song and video that comes close to how I've always imagined he'd be; controversial, lithe, edgy, yet performing songs that anybody could love. It's just a thought.
So, all this and here it is: Patrick Wolf - Vulture. It's THE song of 2009 for me. But be careful boys and girls - this video is certainly NSFW! (Unless your company doesn't mind you looking at a semi-naked guy writhing around in a harness. Just sayin').
