The soul-sucking prison of high school
I just sent this to one of The Boy's teachers in response to yet another packet of projects and vocabulary sent home over the weekend. Do you think I'm out of line?
Dear Teacher,
I don't know about the other kids, but mine is in band, which take an extra 3 hours after school almost every day plus about 9 hours on game day. He is also working on being an Eagle Scout, which takes most weekends. Since the school has him for 7 hours every weekday, I think that is enough, you know? I imagine many other students have similar schedules, with sports and theater, etc., because we want them to be well rounded! But then, if every teacher gives even 15 minutes of homework, there is no time left for anything but eating, sleeping and schoolwork. So I am hoping his projects are things that can mostly be done during school hours. I beg you to keep this in mind, for the sake of our time as a family.
