Maybe half an hour, or twenty minutes before her shifts were due to start, Cecilia would sneak away to the Janus Thickey Ward with a small bouquet of peonies tucked into her fist. Her schedule was always rather odd (bordering on that line of very late or very early), for which she was grateful for- it left the Ward on the quieter side, offering her an opportunity to avoid too much notice when she reached Daphne's hospital room. They had separated Daphne and Pansy, keeping them on either ends in order to avoid any press sneaking pass the lobby. It was a shame they'd had to take those precautions at all.
This morning, before the sun even thought to rise, Cecilia was tucked into the chair that had become her usual spot, her knees resting against her chest as she settled her eyes on her best friend.
"Everything is absolute madness-" she said, her voice low and soft. "Draco's been in Azkaban for six days now. They haven't even thought to entertain the idea of a trial.. I still don't understand it at all. Honestly- why get revenge now? What would it accomplish?"
She knew that Daphne couldn't really hear her, no matter what the other Healers told her. But still, it helped- it kept Cecilia from registering that Daphne wasn't conscious- that the only thing keeping her alive was a round of potions every two hours. They said eventually she'd grow stronger and wake.
Eventually.
"I don't really know what I'm doing-" she continued. "I'm not an Auror- I'm not a bloody savior. I don't know why I think I can fix this on my own- I need you back, Daph. You're the logical one- the smart, bloody know-it-all."
She rubbed at her brow, her eyes closing as she leaned back into the scratchy cushion.
It was torture seeing her like this, after everything they'd done to keep themselves safe - it clearly hadn't been enough. But Cecilia knew that if anyone could pull through, it was Daphne. She had to. There was literally no other option in her head at that moment.
"I'm going to kill you when you finally grace us with your consciousness," she grumbled, a sigh passing through her lips.
