Say what you will about Starbucks - I've ranted about them often enough myself - but the Starbucks outlets in my local Target store and even better, the Kroger, have barristas every bit as knowledgeable as those in a 'real' Starbucks outlet, and who provide MUCH friendlier service then the snooty bastids employed by Starbucks proper.
Today I wanted my first pumpkin spice latte of the year, so after grocery shopping I stopped for one. There's a new fall drink, the toffee mocha, and I was curious, so I asked what the barrista thought of it. She said, 'honestly, I'm not a fan, but if you're ordering a drink, I can make you a small taste to try for yourself."
Color me surprised.
So I said yes, please and ordered my tall pumpkin spice latte, which was delicious, btw.
Anyway, you know how they always pull two shots and throw the extra one away if it's not called for in the drink? Not this time. This angel behind the counter made me not a taste, but a tall toffee mocha! On the house.
Now THAT is why when I want a Starbucks, I ignore the 'real' Starbucks, and get my java fix at the Kroger.
Oh, and she was right. Not my favorite drink ever. Tastes a little too much like a hazelnut mocha and I'm not a fan of hazelnut. I was glad to have it, but I don't think I'd order one again.
