Irish went to the grocery store a while ago to pick up some deli stuff for lunch and brought back no sugar added Klondike Bars. I can sing the jingle ("What would you dooo-ooo-ooo for a Klondike Bar?") but I don't think I've ever had one. It's good, like any other similar ice cream bard (or Dilly Bar - yum!) but how are you supposed to eat it with no stick to hold it? I used the wrapper as a holder but eventually I had to take the wrapper off because it got bigger than the ice cream that was left, so I had to just hold it in my fingers. It got a little melty but not too much since I ate it pretty quickly. It was good, I'll probably have another tomorrow, but not so unbelievable delicious I need to keep them around at all times.
I turned the heat back on yesterday - it was 64 degrees (F) inside the house when I got up in the morning and I don't get up early - usually around 8. In fact, it was still 64 degrees a couple hours later when I finally turned it on. That's a fine temperature for sleeping but not for working at the computer all day. What's the deal, Weather? It's almost Memorial Day - it's supposed to be warm out! (It got down to 39 in the wee hours.) I don't think I've ever had the heat on this late in the year. I did turn it off again later in the day, but also had it on for a couple hours this morning.
Tulip Time up in Holland, Michigan, was May 7-14. My best friend and I drove up the day before (we both had the day off work to take a friend of hers to O'Hare in Chicago, but he changed his plans at the last minute, so the two of us went to Holland instead). It was a beautiful day and we got to see tulips (and eat elephant ears) without the crowds. I only took 3 photos of tulips, from the (stopped) car). Maybe another year I'll actually brave Tulip Time week itself and go to some of the gardens. Of course we stopped at the beach.
The roundish, peach colored ones in the last photo make me think of peaches. Long stem peaches!
2022 is a little kinder that it has been but not entirely. One of the women at church died of cancer on May 1 - she'd just turned 80 and she was tired and ready to go, but still sad for her husband, her family and friends. One of my friends here in town was just diagnosed with colon cancer. She doesn't know yet how advanced it is or if it's spread and will be starting chemo, but she's pretty sick. She's had to quit work and is too worn out to meet for coffee.
On the other hand, our pastor hasn't had to do a funeral a week this month, so that's a plus! He did either 5 funerals in 6 weeks or 6 funerals in 5 weeks - I forget which but either is a lot - and it was pretty wearing. Glad he's getting a break.
My mom turned 80 on May 3. We had a small party at her place on May 1. The cake was store bought but very pretty (and tasted good too). Her next youngest sister turned 78 on April 28, so they went with their other sisters and had lunch together. Mom wanted to put 158 candles on the cake but my aunt was not amused. I thought that was pretty funny - she should've done it.
I hope y'all have had a good month! (And I'll try not to go another month without posting.)
