Words Meme

These are the words from isenglass .  I hope I can do them justice.

hope
Do we give hope to others, seeing how long we have been playing the SCA game?  Or that we just keep on going?  I'm not quite sure what to say about this one.
My hopes are that my boys will live up to their full potential, that they will have good wives and families, a rewarding career, and long life.
For myself, I have goals that I hope I can some day reach.

steadfast
I find that when things are going crazy it helps to just step back and assess the situation.  I guess that's one aspect of being steadfast.  I also tend to keep to my old-fashioned values, contrary to what many around me think.

costuming
This is one of the easier ones.  I've always loved to sew, and when Donal took me to my first event I looked around at what everyone was wearing and thought, "creative sewing - I like this!"   Over thirty years later, I'm still trying to improve what I do.  We know so much more and have so many more resources now than we did then.  I'm also trying to get away from some of the old ideas that I learned early on and catch up with everyone who was doing so much research while I was raising boys and making basic tunics for them (and nothing for me!).

technology
Another relatively easy one.  My dad was a mechanical engineer, my grandfather (his father) mechanical/electrical engineer, my maternal grandfather was a railroad mechanic, one brother is an airplane mechanic, the other works in CAD, my mother worked as a draftsman during WWII (that's how she met my dad - doing his drawings!).  Do you see a  pattern here?
The summer after I graduated from high school, my cousin came in for our grandmother's funeral.  Her new husband brought work with him - a computer listing.  Now this was in 1968, so it was probably some sort of macro-assembler.  I was fascinated.  And hooked.  I majored in Math and took the only programming course available - a very basic FORTRAN class.  My first job was as a programmer.  My second job was at the first Computer Store in the state of West Virginia.  I helped open it.  When I interviewed for the job here with the NASA contractor, I was given a tour of one of the wind tunnels.  It reminded me of what I had seen when my dad took me through the power plant where he worked.  Hooked again.
Now, my boys are continuing the tradition.  Charlie can take a computer apart and put it back together.  Richard is amazing with Sketch-Up and Sketchy-Physics (free CAD-type programs).
And I married a poet!

household
Do you mean this in the SCA context?  We were sort of "friends" of Tannis' household (can't remember how to spell it!) for years, camping together at Pennsic and such.  Donal and Tannis go back to before I met him.  Over the years we have had several people join us as household, but they've all left the area or left the SCA completely.   For several  years we had a Pennsic household of people from the area who just needed a group to camp (and eat) with.  This was before it got so organized with land grab and such.
Once the boys came along, we sort of developed into our own household with just us.  Now that Donal is a Peer, we hope to some day grow with a protege or two.

Thank you for making me think this morning.  I hope I have done justice to your words.
