Great start to the New Year -- NOT!

I had hoped to post about our trip to West Virginia and fill in some of the things donal_mac_r  didn't mention.  Then today happened.

We went to a friend's party last night and got home about 2:30 AM after dropping off Richard's date.  Got to bed about 3.  Woke up this morning about 9:30 feeling a chill in the room.  I convinced Jeb to get dressed and ( Read more... )

Why do these kinds of things never happen during normal business hours and warm weather? Only when it poses the most inconvenience do things happen like this.
Hope you guys don't end up on the short end of the stick with this. I have an extra radiant oil filled heater if you guys need a boost.

But we don't use the furnace during warm weather! It actually started this fall without any problems. I'm just glad it didn't quit while we were gone last week. I had the thermostat turned way down, but it was running fine when we got home Monday night.

We have two space heaters we can lend you until the repairs are made if you'd like them.

Thanks for the offers. I think we'll have enough, but I'll certainly keep you in mind. Our problem now is to not blow fuses or burn out extension cords. The new heaters are 3-prong and most of the outlets are two-prong. Old house syndrome :(

It's going to be more than repairs - we're going to have to replace the whole furnace. Charlie said the guy told him he could probably stick his finger through the flu. The fire box is in really bad shape, too. We've been on borrowed time for several years.

Ugh. Talk about awful timing. We have a couple of electric space heaters if you need to borrow them.

Thanks for the offer. Yeah, timing is everything. Now, just as I'm supposed to be starting Tax Season, I'll have to be here for estimates and hopefully an installation. Grumph. At least Charlie will be here and my office is only about ten minutes away.

BTW, it was nice seeing you at the party last night.

I kinda feel your pain. Granted I'm on south Georgia, but I'm out of propane. *sigh* And I don't have the money to get any more.
