Great start to the New Year -- NOT!

I had hoped to post about our trip to West Virginia and fill in some of the things donal_mac_r  didn't mention.  Then today happened.

We went to a friend's party last night and got home about 2:30 AM after dropping off Richard's date.  Got to bed about 3.  Woke up this morning about 9:30 feeling a chill in the room.  I convinced Jeb to get dressed and check to see if the furnace tank was out of oil.  It was nearly half full!    He went down to the basement and tried to restart the furnace and got barely a click from the restart button.  Uh, oh.

Last year, our oil supplier said they would not service our furnace anymore.  It was too old and dangerous.  It had been running fine since then.  Until today.  A holiday.  No one working.  Jeb called one of the emergancy repair companies in the phone book and the guy came out and looked at it and told him that if he worked on it he wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.  He's a small company and said someone would come out Monday to give us an estimate on a new furnace.  Monday.  This is Thursday.   It's going to be cold this weekend.

I also found an on-line service that will give you three companies in your area for estimates.  I don't expect to hear from them until at least tomorrow.   It's something we've known needed replacing for years, but just hadn't done yet.  It's going to be $$$$$.

We went to Lowe's this evening and bought three space heaters to supplement the ones we already had.  Hopefully, that will get us thru.  We also brought the travel blankets in from the van.   I'm tempted to put on that wool skirt that I made for Holiday Faire!
