Let's see if I can use this thing...

Hmm... apparently I haven't updated for 54 weeks...

Well, I've just finished my third day of my 'removal of disinfectant by-product precursors from potable and reuse water' Ph.D - whoohoo! I have to admit, I was a bit iffy about whether I'd actually be interested in the subject (there's not much to squee about when looking at water...but then, I did get rather excited over my ink-jet inks last year...but they were pretty colours :P ). However, after three days I'm just about ready to bounce off walls.

It's going to start slow of course - lots of reading, writing, and reviewing to do. And there's the added annoyance that 'technically' I'm not yet doing my Ph.D - I have to wait until all the paperwork is completed in regards to contracts between the involved companies etc. ect. As a result, I'm not recognised by any of the Uni computers because my ID has been cancelled as I've finished my degree. To get around that, I'm now employed as a 'research assistant' (dude! I have a job! I'm not an unemployed bum anymore!) so I have access to computers and library. Now I just have to wait until it's processed (it'll most likely be next week when I'm finally allowed back into the system). I'm thrilled I get to pseudo-start my Ph.D without eating into my scholarship too early.
Hazzah!!!!!

Another good thing: I'll once again be doing laboratory demonstrating this year (and no doubt the following 2-3 years too) so I get some extra cash on top. Yayness!
I might be promoted to 2nd year organic chemistry as several people have finished their degrees and have moved on. Otherwise I'd love to do the 1st year phamacy again, as my Puppy's cousin has been accepted into Pharmacy and it would be so much fun to boss him around in a lab (mweeheehee!)

Anyway - yesterday I met with the engineers who will be designing and making the parts of the rig I'll be constructing and using for my research. They showed us their prospective timelines and ideas, and even my supervisors were blown away! This. Will. Be. Awesome.
The only problem we have is what to include in the rig, and the scale it will be. Until the new building is built, there's not much room in the Chem department. I may have to be located off campus (at a Tech park across the road) if things get really big...

*chases tail*

I'm officially excited over water!
