Back from Philly

So I'm back in town from Philadelphia, and I have the best userpic evarz now to talk about it with.

Friday was fine. I traveled on foot, by car, by train, by airplane, and by bus. The bus was from CMU to the airport, and we went over the Fort Pitt Bridge & thataways with the sun rising over the city skyline. I wish I could take the bus to work; I don't get to enjoy that view very much despite driving past it every day.

First time ever flying. I thought it was awesome. I thought I was going to strain my neck from staring out the window at everything. Pennsylvania looks very flat from 22,000 feet. It is somewhat reassuring to know, however, that there is indeed a lovely carpet of forest over much of it. Yay!

The big reason I was actually there was to see my brother's graduation; he's getting his bachelor's in fashion marketing. Sounds pretty esoteric to me, but he got a higher QPA than I did, and he got a special award for outstanding achievement in his program, so he's clearly got his head on straight. It reminded me that I need to order this or this or possibly this for myself.

Saturday, Mom made instant pancakes, which I mention mostly because it gives me an excuse to use the "pancakes" tag. Most of the day was spent with Dad at the Philadelphia art museum, which has a totally sweet med/ren arms & armor display. I'll post pictures when I've sorted out all the crappy ones that got taken because the light sucked and you're not allowed to use a flash.

Sunday was the flight back, which was also awesome; possibly moreso because there were some more clouds. At one point, there were a lot of very small fluffy ones that we passed over. It almost felt more like the clouds were moving underneath us instead of the other way around; that we were standing above a cliff watching the Mongol hordes charge across the steppes. Later there were very large fluffy clouds that we passed over, which to me were an alien landscape, totally unlike anything I'd seen. You would think clouds wouldn't be that much more special when you were close than when you were on the ground, but I thought it was fantastic.

Then the three of us checked out the new Schenley Plaza, which they hadn't seen yet. Got some great pictures, and bought Mom a birthday kielbasa and Dad a father's day kielbasa. Here, loving parents, for putting me through college and driving me to all sorts of stuff in high school and just generally supporting me for 20+ years -- for all your efforts, you get a sausage.
I'm a terrible son.

Now it's mostly just some unpacking & stuff. And wishing I could be flying again.

pancakes, travel
