Finally, a break, and boy did I need it.
Liana and I were hosted by Lumpy and Sharleen while we stayed, and I have to say they showed us an amazing quality of hospitality.
Between cooking us dinners, shuttling us across the city and taking us to some of the best food spots that the frequent, we got taken to the Sanctuary and had a blast dancing.
It was awesome catching up with the dancing crowd down here, I had seen a fair few of them at the Napier Art Deco Festival earlier in the year, but there where plenty of fresh faces and new dance partners.
Watching some of the dancers down here really inspired me to watch more vids of leads and try and pick up a larger repertoire of moves... while I have a few things that I am starting to make my own, I am still just brushing along the basics most of the time.
One of the highlights really was seeing the Tuatara at the
Karori Sanctuary... They are not on display, but there is a fenced area where the original ones where first settled (it is a fenced area, within a fenced area, to protect the Tuatara from native predators).
Each post in the fence is numbered, and the keepers write down where the Tuataras have been seen each day, which basically lets you know where to look, because they are very very good at hiding in plain sight...
Seeing them in the wild really bolstered my decision to have the Tuatara on my “Wushu logo” (something like a family crest), if any creature captures the quickness of being able to stay completely still it is the Tuatara.
As I sit here waiting for the flight to arrive I really feel like I have had more than 5 days away, the break has given me the space to re-evaluate work and things quite a bit and just reset my stress levels (having said that we'll have to see how a day or two back in the office effect that).
