lay your weary head to rest
I am in L.A. again! Well, kind of. On the very outermost edges of L.A. County, anyway! I moved all of my crap back into my dorm this morning. Turns out that my dorm room, which I had never seen, seeing as I had to figure out room draw from Germany, is actually quite lovely and has an excellent view of a courtyard, beating out my previous three years' views, which were:
Junior year: a graveyard
Sophomore year: a parking lot
Freshman year: a WALL ten feet away
(That actually makes it sound worse than they were, with the exception of freshman year, which really was that bad. Junior year's graveyard was very pretty and also had a huge lovely view of the Black Forest and the city of Freiburg between mountains, so.)
But yes, a lovely view, hooray! However, my dorm is also not air-conditioned, and seeing as it's, like, record highs in the L.A. area today, I am hanging out in the lovely air-conditioned hotel room with my mother instead and have spent the afternoon napping and reading fic, yay!
So, a few recs! Let us notice that they are all very long and FANTASTIC, because I love long fic, yessir. (I always want to say things like "I love long fic way more than short fic!" but then there are authors like notthequiettype who write, like, 1,000-word fics and I am sitting there in awe of their PERFECTION and GENIUS, so. Speaking of which: HI ASH HI! We are officially neighbors!)

R. 17,900 words. miss_begonia has been talking about the hustler fic for quite a while, and it is here, and it is AWESOME. Zac hustles and Jared wants to be a social worker and Jensen is an interior decorator and I want to draw hearts around it forever. <3
Don't Go Mistaking Paradise by __tiana__. R. 12,600 words. Jensen loves only two things in his life: drumming and his best friend Jared. Unfortunately, Jared, his head buried in his painting and a years old crush on a girl named Sandy, only knows about the drumming. Another candidate for the 'makes me want to draw a billion hearts' file. SO MUCH LOVE. Also, this has one of the more kickass openings EVER. Just see if you can read the first couple of paragraphs and not be sucked in. I DARE YOU.

Miss Winchester's Unsuitable Suitor by musesfool. Girl!Sam/Dean. Adult. 17,850 words. In which Miss Samantha Winchester, in order to escape an unwanted suitor and reunite with her beloved brother (who has been at sea fighting Napoleon for the past four years), travels to London in the company of Mrs. Ellen Harvelle and her daughter Jo, and has a number of adventures. spn_harlequin Sam/Dean YAY! I have a stupid amount of love for musesfool's Girl!Sam/Dean, no joke. She writes all these fics where Sam has always been a girl and does it SO WELL and I love it. And, and. REGENCY SAM/DEAN. It is lovely and Harlequin-y and awesome.
SPN Horror
The Old Gods Return by fleshflutter. Sam/Dean. NC-17. 16,154 words. So I've never read HP Lovecraft, but I understand that if you have, you will recognize some things here. It does not matter a BIT if you haven't, though. This fic is 100% fantastic and creepy and aljsdlkfsjdf. There are these warnings at the top of the page, right? You should maybe look at them and then ENTIRELY FORGET ABOUT THEM, regardless of what you like to read or don't, because this story is just that fantastic. And creepy as HELL. I have this thing for stories in which characters have identity crises or lose sight of who they are and it leads to problems -- which is why I love genderswap, gay angst, 'Character X goes evil!', memory loss, body swap, etc. so very much -- and this story pushes ALL of my buttons on that front. Also, did I mention the incredible sense of creepy?
Heck, on that note, go read anything fleshflutter ever wrote, because I am in awe every damned time. THAT GIRL. There's still that big fat Dean/Bobby fic of hers that I am waiting to be in the right mood to read, but I am sure that when I do it will be fantastic like everything else she has written.

Speaking of fic, I promise that I am writing. It's just all long stuff, so uh, IDK when it's going to appear. I am probably 4,000ish words into the fic I am currently thinking of as 'long angsty genswap yay!' and have ~7,200 words of what may well end up being a gen crackfic that I'm cowriting with theoret (we shall see if we can keep the Wincest from looking too very pastede on yey!, I'm not holding out any hope), and I have finished my spn_remix fic! Which won't get posted until OCTOBER, never mind. But anyway, I should be around now, barring any actual RL things like school (senior year of college what?), so hi friends! :D
